Custom Pool - Tiles vs Standard Finish
One of the most popular trends in home improvement right now is building a custom pool. But before you get started, there’s one question you need to answer: What finish should your pool have? While many homeowners choose tiles as the finish for their custom pools, others prefer a standard finish. Here are the benefits and drawbacks of each option:
1. Whats the difference?
There's a few options when we look at finishes for your custom pool, let's break them down so you can make a decision that's best for you and your budget.
The first option is a pebblecrete with 50% glass bead. This is your standard finish. It's the most cost effective way to achieve a custom pool.
In the mid range is the 100% glass bead finish, which is a step up from your standard finish but still with the pebblecrete look.
At the higher end is a tiled finish. This is completely different effect to the standard finish.

2. Maintenance
A pool is a great place to spend a hot summer day with the family, but it can also be a costly and timely investment.
Tiled pools are a popular choice for homeowners because they not only look beautiful but they are a lot less maintenance as well.
Standard finishes, although more cost effective initially, can require a lot more long term maintenance.
If this is the way you're wanting to go, be sure you have done your research and make an educated decision, based on your desired outcome.
3. Look & Finish
It's important you consider exactly what it is you want to achieve with your new pool. If it's high end all the way, then tiles are a great option. If budget is a consideration for you, perhaps the standard finish is more for you. Both will give you a beautiful custom pool.
At Patterson Built, we much prefer a tiled pool. It’s definitely got a higher end feel to it and we love that it’s less maintenance long term.
That means more time to enjoy swimming with family & friends.
